NEW MEMBER - GUIDING PRINCIPLES
During the course of 2015, the Seniors' national management body (Mancom) decided to review the total allowed active members for each of the 9 provincial societies. Gauteng North was one of the societies which had its allocation increased, in our case to 92. Some other societies had theirs reduced.
At present we have 73 active members, with 4 prospective member applications currently being processed. This means that we could have the potential to take on an additional 15 members.
A number of points are worth mentioning to contextualise the principles that the committee has agreed upon.
The current make up of our membership is spread across 7 Clubs (PCC - 58%, Woodhill - 8%, Wingate -12%, Centurion - 5%, Waterkloof - 5%, Silver Lakes - 4%, Irene - 1%). Ideally we should have more members from those Clubs with lower percentage representation.
We have no deadline for the acceptance of new members and therefore have the opportunity and responsibility to make these decisions wisely, always endeavouring to ensure that they are taken in the best long term interest of our society.
This is an opportunity for all members to be mindful of the need, over time, to grow our society in a manner that will result in it becoming more representative of our golfing community in particular and society in general.
The committee has decided that the above considerations will be its guiding principles as it considers future proposals for membership.
Finally, referring back to 1920 when the US Seniors' Golf Association was incorporated, it's worthwhile remembering that, the member "should be a gentleman and fun to be with, during and after golf" and "he should enjoy and respect the game of golf and its traditions".
We hope that all members will understand and support these principles.
