MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURE
A candidate for membership must be proposed and seconded by members, both of whom have been members of the Society for at least one year and do not serve on the Committee of the Society.
The proposal must be submitted on the "Application to Propose a Prospective Member" form which can be obtained from the Administrative Secretary.
The proposal must be completed in full and signed by the proposer and the seconder and then returned to the Administrative Secretary. On receipt of the completed form, the Administrative Secretary will circulate the proposal to the Committee members and the proposal will be considered by the Committee at its next meeting.
It is incumbent on both the proposer and the seconder to ensure that they are both fully acquainted with the candidate and can vouch for him.
It is also important that the candidate is made aware of the minimum playing requirements of the Society, and that no assurances are given to the candidate by the proposer and/or the seconder that the proposal will be accepted by the Committee.
Once the candidate has been approved by the Committee, he will be advised of this by the proposer and the Administrative Secretary will thereafter extend a formal invitation to the candidate to participate in matches arranged by the Society.
Vetting Process (commences with candidate's official introductory round):
The Administrative Secretary will thereafter obtain all the requisite personal information on the "Registration of New Member" form which will be sent to the candidate.
The candidate will then be required to complete the necessary documentation and pay the Entrance and Annual Subscription fees due.
Thereafter the Committee will arrange for the induction to the Society of the candidate at an appropriate prize-giving function at the Pretoria Country Club. At his induction, the new member will receive his Gauteng North Seniors golf shirt, the Seniors tie and name badge, and a copy of the "Senior Moments" book.
(For full details of Election to Membership, see clause 11 of the Constitution of the senior Golfers Society of Gauteng North.)

ATTENDANCE
The Senior Golfers Union of South Africa (SGUSA) allocates an Active Membership quota to each of the affiliated Societies. In the case of the Gauteng North Society, the quota is 92 active members. If members do not participate in organised Seniors matches, they effectively prevent other prospective members from enjoying the benefits of Senior Golf.
It is for this reason that the playing statistics will be published and regularly updated on the website. It is expected of members that they will participate in at least 50% of the matches arranged by the Society.
In evaluating the attendance of members, the Committee will also take into account member attendance at the annual National Tournament organised by SGUSA, as well as inter-society and friendly matches arranged during the year. Member health issues will also be recorded in the annual playing statistics.
The member will be advised by the Committee when he is consistently not meeting the minimum attendance requirements of the Society. A member's attendance during the year will be an important consideration when selection of members to represent the Society at the annual National Tournament is being finalized.
Should a member, having accepted to play in a match arranged by the Society, for any reason have to cancel his participation in that match, it is incumbent on him to advise the Administrative Secretary at the earliest possible opportunity and to contact his playing partners and let them know that he will be unavailable to play. "No-Shows" by members without these minimum communication requirements, will be viewed most seriously by the Society.
Temporary leave of absence: From time to time members may, due to reasons of ill health, injury, travel or business commitments, find themselves in a position where they, for a relatively short time, are unable to meet their minimum participation requirements. In this situation, members must make a written application for temporary leave of absence from the Society.
Extended leave of absence: Should the member believe that his absence is likely to be of a lengthier duration, he may wish to consider temporarily transferring to Non-Playing member status - provided that the non-playing member has retained some form of membership of a golf club, he may, at the discretion of the Committee, be re-admitted to the class of Active member at a later stage (see clause 10.1.4 of the Consitution of the Senior Golfers Society of Gauteng North).
